The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has detained an officer following an accidental discharge that resulted in the death of Oyebuchi Anene in Abuja.
The incident occurred on Wednesday around 9:45 p.m. in the Byazhin area of Abuja. SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, confirmed the details in a statement released on Friday.
Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident. The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department has been tasked with leading the discreet inquiry.
Commissioner Igweh extended his profound condolences to the bereaved family and the public, condemning the unprofessional conduct of the officer involved. He assured both the family and the public that swift justice will be pursued.
