A 27-year-old woman, Khanyisile Mndayi, is in a coma and in critical condition after being stabbed more than 20 times by her boyfriend, Bongani, in front of their children on Sunday at their residence in Berea, Johannesburg, South Africa.

According to Gillian Mogale’s Facebook post, Mndayi was attacked after arriving home late from her shift. The post stated, “Mndayi came home late from her shift at Tempo. Upon her arrival home at Metropolitan flat in Berea, she was insulted, beaten, and ultimately stabbed multiple times right in front of her kids by her boyfriend, BONGANI, known as Luuk De Jong on Facebook. She is currently fighting for her life in hospital.”

Women For Change, a non-profit organization fighting gender-based violence and femicide in South Africa, reported that the boyfriend fled the scene after locking Mndayi and her children indoors. Their statement read, “Khanyisile Vanessa Mndayi, 27, was stabbed more than twenty times, allegedly by her boyfriend, in front of their children on May 26, 2024. Khanyisile is currently in a coma, fighting for her life.”

The organization revealed that the boyfriend was arrested when he returned to the scene, allegedly intending to inflict further harm. “Neighbours alerted the police, and when the boyfriend came back to allegedly continue to stab Khanyisile, police were able to arrest him. We pray for Khanysisile’s healing and recovery and call for justice for her and her children!” the statement added.

This incident follows another tragic case reported in April, where a UK-based Nigerian man, Olubunmi Abodunde, fatally beat his wife, Taiwo, with their son’s skateboard, highlighting ongoing issues of domestic violence globally.
