Two students from Lagos State University were struck by stray bullets in a popular student residential area known as PPL on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 8 PM while the students were purchasing food.

Although the identities of the victims and the shooter(s) remain unknown, the students were reportedly hit while outside the campus. A Twitter user, Baddy of Lasu, warned fellow students to stay indoors, tweeting, “Two students have been shot at PPL, Ojo, Lagos. Please, students of LASU, stay indoors and don’t go out.”

Kappo Olawale, Senior Special Adviser on Students’ Union Affairs to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, confirmed the incident. Tweeting as #kappozino, Olawale mentioned that he had communicated with the university’s Student Union President, who reported that the victims are now in stable condition. “The Dean of Students was also on the ground to ensure they were properly attended to. Thanks to God!” he added.

An anonymous university student revealed that the victims were hit by stray bullets as they tried to escape gunfire while fetching food. One of the victims, a female, was seen in a video lying on a bed, her shirt soaked in blood.

The source detailed that the male victim was hit in the neck and arm and was initially treated at the LASU Health Centre before being transferred to Igando Medical Hospital, where he is now responding to treatment. The Dean of Students Affairs was present with the injured students at the hospital.

Attempts to reach SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, for comments were unsuccessful as he did not respond to messages at the time of reporting.
