President Bola Tinubu recently commissioned several gas infrastructure projects in Imo State, Southeast Nigeria. These projects include the expansion of the AHL Gas Processing Plant, the ANOH Gas Processing Plant, and the 23.3Km ANOH to Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Custody Transfer Metering Station Gas Pipeline Projects.

Although President Tinubu joined the event virtually from Aso Rock in Abuja, several dignitaries attended physically. Among them were Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil) Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Gas Ekperikpe Ekpo, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.

In his address, President Tinubu highlighted the significance of the projects in accelerating the development of critical gas infrastructure to enhance energy supply for industrial growth. He emphasized that these projects align with the Decade of Gas initiative and the government’s efforts to leverage the nation’s abundant gas resources while eliminating gas flaring and promoting industrialization.

President Tinubu commended the strategic vision of NNPC Limited and its partners, Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO), and Seplat Energy Plc, for their contribution to these projects. He noted that these projects would increase gas supply to the domestic market by over 25%, benefiting the power sector, gas-based industries, and other critical segments of the economy.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to leveraging gas to drive economic growth, citing initiatives such as the presidential CNG initiative aimed at reducing reliance on petrol and diesel. President Tinubu assured investors in the energy sector of the government’s support and commitment to facilitating ease of doing business.

He urged stakeholders to embrace the theme of the commissioning, “From Gas to Prosperity; Renewed Hope,” as a call to accelerate investment and development in the gas sector. President Tinubu congratulated NNPC Ltd, SEEPCO, and Seplat Energy on the successful implementation of these projects and encouraged further collaboration to realize the potential of gas-fueled prosperity in Nigeria.
