In Oyo State, 25 suspects were brought to court for the death of Alex Timileyi, a second-year engineering student at Ajayi Crowther University. Timileyi was beaten to death by his peers on May 24, 2023, over accusations of stealing a mobile phone.

The tragic event took place inside Shepherd Inn, a hostel on the university campus. After allegedly being caught with the stolen phone, Timileyi was brutally attacked and had his hair shaved by the assailants.

Following this, the university expelled some of the involved students and handed them over to the police for legal action. A relative of the deceased, known as “Lord of Warri” on X.com, had earlier urged the Oyo State Governor to ensure justice for Timileyi.

The arraignment has been welcomed by the deceased’s family and supporters, who appreciate the efforts of the Oyo State Government and police in pursuing the case. They are hopeful that the trial will bring justice for Timileyi.

The university has yet to release further comments on the case, and police sources have not confirmed additional details at this time. The community continues to mourn the loss and calls for swift justice.
