Tragedy struck in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, on Monday with the death of Modupe Ayandare, a final-year student at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA). Ayandare, who served as the president of the Agronomy Department, allegedly took her own life.

The incident occurred in an uncompleted building near the white garment church where she had attended a vigil. Noble Olaogbebikan, the Public Relations Officer of the university’s student union, reported that Ayandare committed suicide around 4 am on Monday.

“We express our profound sorrow and dissatisfaction with the death of Ayandare Modupe, a 500-level student and president of the Agronomy Department,” said Olaogbebikan. “The incident happened near the church she attended, close to Sportless Villa. Law enforcement has been notified, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of this tragedy.”

The Agronomy Department also expressed their grief in a statement: “We have lost Comrade Modesty, our department president. Her passing, by suicide at Onireason Street’s permanent site, is a profound loss to us all.”

Ondo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed that Ayandare left a suicide note in her bag. The police have launched an investigation to uncover the details surrounding her death.
