A 16-year-old boy named Dimeji was swept away by a flood near St Anthony Secondary School in Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode, on Friday. Dimeji, an apprentice barber in the Awokoya area, reportedly slipped into a flooded canal after mistakenly thinking he was stepping on a plank used to cross over.

Dimeji had recently celebrated his graduation from Ansar-u-Deen Secondary School in Ijebu Ode. A viral video shared on Saturday, accompanied by a condolence message, showed his body being retrieved from the gully.

The message read: “With a heavy heart, we share the sorrowful news of a young life lost to the devastating erosion in Ijebu Ode this evening. The victim, an apprentice barber at Awokoya, has been confirmed to be a non-student. Our thoughts are with his loved ones, including his mother, who sells ‘fufu’ at the same location. May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find comfort in this difficult time.”
