In a decisive move to enhance Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and curb illegal financial activities, the Imo state government has launched a crackdown on motor park touts and unauthorized revenue collectors.
The operation, spearheaded by Hon. Pastor Frank Onwumere, Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Motor Parks Supervision and Illegal Parks, resulted in the arrest of the notorious gangster Mr. Tapey and his associates.
Hon. Onwumere stated, “We are implementing directives from His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodimma. Imo residents should now pay their levies into the government’s approved Treasury Single Account (TSA). No one should use personal account details for revenue collection.”
The crackdown aims to close down illegal motor parks in the state and ensure all revenue collections are funneled into the government’s TSA.
“The IGR of the government should be allowed to grow,” Hon. Onwumere emphasized. “Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration is committed to improving Imo. Anyone using personal accounts for revenue collection will be arrested and prosecuted.”
He confirmed the arrest of Mr. Tapey and his associates, noting that they would face legal consequences.
“The arrest of Mr. Tapey and his associates is a significant win in our ongoing fight against corruption and illegal revenue collection,” said Hon. Onwumere.
The operation was carried out with the support of the police, the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and the Anti-Kidnapping unit, known as Tiger Base.
