The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of Imo State University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Philip Ogbonna, marked his 40th Priestly anniversary on Sunday, June 23rd, 2024.

The celebration began with a Mass at the St. Anthony Mary Claret Parish, World Bank, New Owerri.

During the homily, the Bishop of Ahiara Diocese, Most Rev. Simon Nwobi, emphasized the challenges of life using examples from the stories of Job and Jesus. He encouraged the congregation to be wary of spiritual complacency, describing it as the biggest challenge to the Christian faith. Rev. Nwobi praised Rev. Fr. Ogbonna for his strength in weathering the storms of life.

The Bishop also advised the congregation to pray for God’s will in their lives, emphasizing that every calling comes with its challenges, and one should remain resolute and declare, like Job, that their Redeemer lives.

The Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. U.U. Chukwumaeze, served as the Chairman of the event. He urged everyone to rejoice and celebrate the goodness of God. The VC spoke highly of Fr. Ogbonna, describing him as a blessing to his family and the university. He highlighted Fr. Ogbonna’s three-decade-long impactful relationship with him and his efforts to eradicate cultism from the university.

In his expression of gratitude, Fr. Ogbonna thanked God for the gift of life and the love and support from his family, colleagues, friends, and students. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all who came to celebrate with him.

Speeches were delivered by the former Vice Chancellors of Imo State University, directors, family, and friends. The celebration concluded with a festive meal and drinks, and everyone departed happily.
