The Labour Party has called for re-negotiation of Nigeria’s minimum wage, labeling the N494,000 demand by organized labour as unrealistic. National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh emphasized that a nationwide strike would worsen hardships for Nigerians, urging continued dialogue with the government.

“The demand for N494,000 minimum wage is really unrealistic. It will imply that Nigeria will take all that money it has to pay the civil servants,” Ifoh stated.

Despite ongoing negotiations, organized labour commenced an indefinite strike on Monday, rejecting the government’s latest offer of N60,000. Ifoh advocated for a practical solution, warning against actions that could further strain the country’s economy and living conditions.
