Nollywood icon Amaechi Muonagor was laid to rest on Friday in his hometown of Obosi, located in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. The burial was marked by tears and heartfelt tributes from family members, relatives, and the Nollywood community.
Among the mourners were Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment, Dom Onyenji. Both attended to pay their respects to the late actor.
In his condolence speech, Obi lamented the loss of Muonagor and encouraged the bereaved family to find solace. He prayed for the repose of the actor’s soul.
Onyenji highlighted the significant loss to Nollywood, noting that Muonagor was a creative force who had made substantial contributions to the industry. He assured that the Anambra State government stood in solidarity with Nollywood, recognizing Muonagor’s impactful roles and mentorship.
Emeka Ejezie, National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), also conveyed his condolences. Represented by veteran actor Steve Eboh, Ejezie described Muonagor as a great man and prayed for strength for the grieving family.
State AGN chairman, Mrs. Chinyere Anyaegbunam, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. She emphasized that Muonagor was a cherished figure in the industry, mentoring many and serving as a father figure to his colleagues.
The funeral underscored Muonagor’s legacy and the profound impact he had on those around him in Nollywood.
