The Edo State government has condemned the brutal rape and murder of Glory Adekolure, a recent University of Benin (UNIBEN) graduate. Adekolure, 22, was allegedly attacked, tortured, and raped to death by unidentified individuals in Iyowa Community, Benin City, on Monday. Her body was found near her mother’s house.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, through a statement issued by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, expressed profound shock and sadness over the incident. The governor has directed the state Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, to identify and apprehend the culprits within seven days.

The statement read: “The Edo State Government is shocked and deeply saddened by the gruesome murder of Adekolure Idowu Glory, a recent graduate of UNIBEN, who was allegedly raped and killed by unknown individuals in Iyowa Community, within the Benin metropolis. This incident is deeply disheartening, and the state government condemns this vile and senseless act in the strongest terms.

“The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, extends his heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim and has instructed the state Commissioner of Police to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding Miss Adekolure’s death and to bring the perpetrators to justice within the next seven days.”

Adekolure had left home on June 13, 2024, to complete her university clearance but was found dead upon her return. A social media user, tweeting from @softbaba24 and claiming to be her brother, shared that the tragic event occurred while she was on her way back from school.
