In the Kimakpa community of Plateau State, gunmen attacked, killing five people, including a pastor and his wife. The tragic event took place in the Kwall district, Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa local government area.

The victims were identified as Pastor Dauda Dalyop, aged 63, his wife Mrs. Chummy Dauda, 57, Mr. Chwe Ajuhs, 26, Mr. Joshua Kusa, 45, and Mrs. Rikwe Doro, 43. Two other individuals were seriously injured and are currently receiving treatment.

Sam Jugo, National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, confirmed the attack, noting that it occurred late on the night of June 2, 2024. The community had already been grieving the loss of youths from an earlier attack.

The incident has left the community in shock and mourning. Jugo urged residents to stay calm, avoid nighttime travel, and not seek revenge, stressing the importance of allowing security forces to handle the situation.

Local authorities and security personnel, including the Transition Committee Chairman of Bassa LGA, Fidelis Adara, visited the crime scene and met with the paramount ruler of the Irigwe people, Rev. Ronku Aka, to offer condolences.

Three victims were buried shortly after the visit, while the bodies of the pastor and his wife were taken to a mortuary. The community is calling for justice and increased security to prevent further violence.

Residents hope for a swift response from the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore peace to the area.
