The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested Tijani Uzairu in connection with the murder of Chukwu Chukwudi, a mechanic, at the Kugbo mechanic village in Abuja.
The incident, which led to a riot at the mechanic village located along the Keffi-Abuja road, occurred on Thursday. Chukwudi was reportedly stabbed to death by a soldier during an argument. Following the attack, the suspect and his accomplices fled the scene.
In a statement issued by the FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, it was revealed that Tijani Uzairu, along with four other suspects who are still at large, had brought a vehicle for repairs when the incident took place.
“Chukwu Chukwudi was stabbed in the neck with a dagger by one of the suspects,” Adeh stated.
Upon receiving the complaint, police operatives from the Karu Division promptly arrived at the scene. Uzairu, who had accompanied the other suspects, was arrested. Chukwudi was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. He assured the public that normalcy has been restored and urged citizens to avoid acts of violence, noting that the consequences are often severe and regrettable.
