In Jos, a 19-year-old trader named Ahmad Umar has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court for trespassing into a fuel station and stealing a security safe.
Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos delivered a summary trial and sentence after the defendant pleaded guilty to the charges. However, the magistrate provided an alternative for the convict to pay a fine of N100,000.
Earlier, Inspector Ijuptil Thawal, the prosecutor, informed the court that the incident was reported on January 7 at the “A” Police Station in Jos by Cecilia Ali, the complainant. The prosecutor detailed that Umar unlawfully entered the fuel station’s office and stole a safe containing N361,000 before being apprehended.
The offence falls under the Plateau State Penal Code Law and carries a corresponding punishment.
