A devastating rainstorm at the North East trade fair in Bauchi State claimed the lives of five people on Saturday night. The storm, which hit around 8:30 p.m., initially killed two individuals and injured three others who later died at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital.
Hospital PRO, Abdullahi Kobi, confirmed the casualties, stating that two were dead on arrival, while three succumbed to severe injuries shortly after. Three more victims with multiple fractures are currently receiving treatment.
The storm struck the trade fair venue, impacting the Gombe and Yobe pavilions. Despite the trade fair concluding four days earlier, participants seeking shelter were trapped when the pavilion collapsed. Commissioner for Commerce and Industries, Mahmud Babamaji, expressed his condolences and promised further updates.
