Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, a former Niger Delta freedom fighter, has issued a firm warning to organizers of the upcoming nationwide protest against economic hardship, advising them to exclude the Niger Delta region from their plans.
Speaking at the Niger Delta Sensitisation Conference in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Asari-Dokubo criticized the protest’s organizers, alleging that their motivations are not aligned with the pressing issues faced by the Niger Delta communities. He described the organizers as anarchists interested primarily in the region’s resources.
“Asari-Dokubo and his supporters, along with those committed to the Niger Delta’s interests, will not be participating in or supporting this protest,” he declared. “If you have the right to protest, I have the right to oppose it. Where your rights end, mine begin.”
Asari-Dokubo also noted a pattern of discontent within the Niger Delta, suggesting that previous protests during different administrations have not addressed the region’s specific needs. He emphasized that the current situation should not be used as a pretext for disruption in the region.
“I’m against this protest. We’ve seen similar actions before, and they have not benefited us,” he added. “Our focus should be on constructive engagement rather than demonstrations that do not address our real problems.”
