Professor Tahir Mamman, Nigeria’s Minister of Education, has instructed vice-chancellors of all Nigerian universities to ensure the safety and security of their institutions’ communities.

In a statement released on Monday and signed by Chris Maiyaki, Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, the Minister emphasized that students should remain on campus and focus on their studies to minimize exposure to potential dangers linked to upcoming protests.

While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, the government expressed concerns about the potential risks to students, staff, and university property. Vice-chancellors have been urged to take proactive measures to safeguard their campuses and to communicate clearly with both staff and students about safety precautions.
