Eight school children are safe after surviving a terrifying motor accident in Lokoja, Kogi State. The pupils, from Kingdom Heritage Nursery and Primary School, were involved in the accident on Thursday at the bustling Lokongoma market.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident occurred when a heavy-duty truck, carrying a container, toppled onto two smaller vehicles. The truck’s collapse trapped the children inside the vehicles. Thankfully, a swift response from the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and other emergency services led to their dramatic rescue.
Kogi State Security Adviser Commodore Jerry Omodara (Rtd.) was on-site, overseeing the rescue operations and ensuring the children’s safety. As of late Thursday afternoon, efforts to clear the truck and restore traffic flow are ongoing.
The quick and coordinated action of the rescue teams has been credited with preventing a potentially tragic outcome. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for road safety measures, especially in busy areas like Lokongoma market.
