The Registrar of Wigwe University, Ulonna Inyama, has passed away in an Abuja hospital, reportedly due to a wrong blood transfusion.

According to a family source, Inyama, who had been receiving treatment for complications related to fibroids, experienced a severe reaction after a transfusion of an incorrect blood type. She was initially treated at one hospital but was later transferred to another facility where her condition deteriorated, leading to her death.

“We were informed that a blood transfusion error led to her passing. She was transferred to another hospital where her condition worsened,” the source told Vanguard.

Prior to her role at Wigwe University, Inyama served as Chief Personnel Officer and Head of Strategic Communications/Special Duties at the National Universities Commission (NUC).

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about the quality of healthcare in Nigeria and the safety protocols in place. It follows the recent tragic death of Wigwe University’s founder, Herbert Wigwe, who died in a helicopter crash in the United States along with his wife and son.
