The University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) is mourning the tragic loss of a first-year student, Favour Okenyi, whose lifeless body was discovered in a drainage near Akanu Ibiam Stadium on Friday, July 5. Favour, a student of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, was found within the university premises, leaving the community in deep shock and sorrow.
UNN’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Okwun Omeaku, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement issued on Sunday in Nsukka. The university is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Favour’s death to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served.
“The university community is profoundly shocked and saddened by the untimely death of this young student. We are conducting a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for this evil act,” said Omeaku.
The statement extended the university’s heartfelt condolences to Favour’s family and reassured them that the administration is working closely with security agencies to uncover the facts surrounding her death and prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
“Our community was devastated on Friday, July 5, by the distressing discovery of Favour’s lifeless body. The university administration is deeply saddened by the loss of such a promising student and extends its heartfelt condolences to her family during this difficult time,” the statement read.
UNN’s management emphasized their commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring the safety and security of all students. The university is taking all necessary measures to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
