A tragic incident unfolded at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, where Emmanuel, a 300-level Linguistics student, was shot and killed by gunmen in his hostel room late Sunday night. The victim was reportedly attacked while lying in bed, sending shockwaves through the university community.
According to a student who witnessed the aftermath, Emmanuel was shot while in his room at a private student hostel. The shooting occurred around 9:30 pm, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Odunlami Ibukun, confirmed that the police have initiated an investigation into the case.
“The incident was reported to the police, and we have begun our investigation,” Ibukun said. “Our team visited the crime scene, and we are actively working to uncover the details surrounding this tragic event.”
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no suspects have been identified as of yet. Comrade Oladele Emmanuel, Vice Chairman of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), has called for a thorough investigation by both the security agencies and the university management.
“The loss of Emmanuel is devastating not just to his family and friends but to the entire AAUA community,” said Comrade Oladele. “We must ensure that those responsible are brought to justice and that such a tragic event does not repeat itself.”
He also urged the university to bolster security measures, including enhanced patrols, better lighting, and improved emergency services, to safeguard students in the future.
“This is a time for the AAUA community to unite in grief and take decisive action to ensure a safer environment for everyone,” Comrade Oladele added. “We owe it to Emmanuel and his loved ones to commit ourselves to uncovering the truth and securing justice.”
The university and local authorities are under increasing pressure to address the rising concerns about campus safety following this horrific event. The community remains hopeful for swift and effective measures to prevent further incidents and protect students.
