The Imo State Police Command has made significant arrests with the capture of two suspected armed robbers and a known cultist.
The suspects, Ntosi Godfrey (37) and Nnamdi Raymond, were apprehended after a high-stakes operation between the Umuahia and Owerri areas.
According to ASP Henry Okoye, the Command’s spokesperson, the arrests occurred during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Owerri-Aba road.
The suspects were found in a Green Toyota Golf, which had been reported stolen in Umuahia. Upon spotting the police, the suspects engaged in a gunfight. The Tactical Unit of the Command responded effectively, with one suspect sustaining injuries and later receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a pump-action gun, a locally-made firearm, and ten live cartridges. The suspects admitted to being part of a notorious armed robbery gang in Umuahia.
In a separate operation on July 18, 2024, at Nekede Divisional Headquarters in Owerri West LGA, police, in collaboration with local vigilantes, arrested Chibueze Kalu, a 25-year-old suspected member of the Black Axe Confraternity. A locally-made pistol was seized from him, and he reportedly confessed to his affiliation with the cult group.
