A 40-year-old lawyer, Abayomi Oladire, was reportedly attacked and stabbed by Kunle Kuteyi, the husband of his client, for assisting her in filing a divorce suit. The incident occurred as Oladire was heading to his sister’s baby naming ceremony in Ondo West Local Council.
Sources say Kuteyi accused Oladire of having an affair with his wife and facilitating the divorce. Eyewitnesses described how Kuteyi initially hugged Oladire before suddenly pulling out a broken bottle and stabbing him multiple times.
According to a resident named Seyi, sympathizers quickly rushed the bleeding lawyer to the hospital for treatment. The incident has left the community in shock.
Oladire recounted that his involvement began when Kuteyi’s wife sought his help to clarify a court judgment ordering her and her husband to each pay N2 million. After this, she requested Oladire to prepare divorce papers, which she later decided to withdraw after family intervention.
On the day of the attack, Kuteyi confronted Oladire, accusing him of dating his wife and assisting with the divorce. Despite Oladire’s explanation, Kuteyi attacked him viciously. Oladire managed to protect himself from more severe injuries.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that Kuteyi is currently at large but assured that efforts are underway to apprehend him soon. The incident has raised serious concerns about safety and justice within the community.
