A woman from Okenne, Kogi State, is in distress after her 32-year-old daughter, Hamidat Abdulrafiu, went missing. Hamidat left home on June 18, 2024, to meet a customer in Lokoja, Kogi State, and has not been heard from since.
Hamidat’s mother, Mrs. Ramot Yakubu, shared her concerns with City Round, explaining that her daughter’s phone has been unreachable since June 19. Despite tracing her to Abuja and reporting the incident to the police, there has been no sign of Hamidat, and no reports of kidnapping or accidents have emerged.
“Hamidat is a businesswoman who sells unisex clothes. She often travels to Lokoja to meet her customers and collect payments for goods bought on credit,” Mrs. Ramot said. “When she arrived in Lokoja, she called me to let me know. But the next morning, on the 19th, when I tried chatting with her and got no response, I knew something was wrong. Her phone has been unreachable ever since.”
Mrs. Ramot also contacted her other daughter, who studies at the Federal University in Lokoja, but she had not seen Hamidat either.
A friend who shares a place with Hamidat reported that people in their compound saw her leave around 8:00 PM on June 18 after receiving a phone call. Strangely, Hamidat didn’t touch the food that had been bought for her, and her bathing soap, body cream, and the clothes she wore upon arrival were found in her room untouched.
When asked if there had been any ransom demands or threats, Mrs. Yakubu confirmed that there had been none.
John Stephen, a police officer from Adavi Police Divisional Headquarters, confirmed the incident, saying, “According to her family, it is unusual for her to go for days without returning home.”
The family and authorities are continuing their efforts to locate Hamidat and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
