Team Nigeria’s boxing representatives, Cynthia Ogunsemilore and Adams Olaore, have arrived in Paris ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games. Ogunsemilore, competing in the women’s 60kg division, and Olaore, who will fight in the men’s heavyweight (92kg) class, are gearing up to make their mark on the global stage.
Their arrival in Paris is marked by high expectations as they strive to break Nigeria’s 28-year medal drought in boxing. The last Nigerian boxer to clinch an Olympic medal was Donkan Dokiwari, who secured a bronze in the super heavyweight category at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
Unfortunately, another member of the team, Dolapo Omole, a 57kg fighter, has been forced to withdraw from the competition due to an injury sustained during training. Despite this setback, the focus remains on Ogunsemilore and Olaore as they prepare to represent Nigeria with determination and skill.
With Paris set to host a historic Olympic event, Ogunsemilore and Olaore are poised to revive Nigeria’s boxing legacy and bring pride to their country. The duo’s journey is closely watched by fans and experts alike, who are hopeful for a breakthrough performance that could reignite Nigeria’s Olympic boxing tradition.
