The Nigerian Navy has struck a significant blow against oil theft in Rivers State, dismantling a suspected oil thieves’ camp and arresting two individuals. The operation, carried out by the Quick Response Team of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base Bonny under Operation DELTA SANITY, took place on July 21, 2024, in the Elem-Akrakama and Elem-Tombia areas.

Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, Director of Information at the Naval Headquarters, revealed that the operation involved a dramatic firefight with armed suspects who were aboard two speedboats. Upon encountering the Navy team, the suspects attempted to escape but were ultimately cornered in their camp. The Navy utilized drone surveillance to track the suspects’ movements and effectively manage the situation.

During the operation, the Navy recovered significant items including two outboard engines (200 and 140 Horse Power) and two Motorola walkie-talkie radios. The suspects retreated into the surrounding creeks, but their camp was thoroughly dismantled.
