A 43-year-old boarding school housemaster, Adema Ogunbiyi, has been remanded in Kirikiri custodial facility for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old boy. The order was given by Chief Magistrate E. Kubeinje at the Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Magistrate Kubeinje ruled that Ogunbiyi be held in custody while awaiting advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions. The court did not take Ogunbiyi’s plea during the hearing and adjourned the case until July 24 for mention.
The prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, informed the court that the alleged offence took place on June 18, between 10:00 PM and 11:30 PM at St. Francis Catholic Secondary School, located on Idimu Road in Ikotun-Lagos. Iberedem stated that Ogunbiyi, a housemaster at the school, sexually assaulted the boy.
The charges against Ogunbiyi fall under Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes life imprisonment for such offences.
