Seun Kuti, son of Afro-beats legend Fela Kuti, has made startling revelations about an alleged plot by late politician MKO Abiola and his wife, Simbiat, to frame his father for armed robbery during Muhammadu Buhari’s military regime.
According to Seun, Abiola and Simbiat accused Fela of stealing their Ferrari at gunpoint, a crime punishable by death under the regime’s laws enforced by Deputy Head of State Tunde Idiagbon. However, Fela escaped arrest as he was performing in Cameroon at the time of the alleged incident.
Seun Kuti disclosed these details in a live Instagram session, stating, “Abiola and Simbiat wrote a statement at a police station claiming Fela and his gang robbed her at gunpoint.” He recounted how Fela retaliated by symbolically confronting Abiola with buckets of faeces, an act meant to protest the false accusation.
The incident sheds light on the turbulent political climate and personal conflicts during Nigeria’s military rule, highlighting the lengths to which individuals would go in pursuit of power and influence.
