A tragic incident occurred on Monday when a containerized truck lost control and killed a female biker in the Sifax inward Iganmu Bridge area of Lagos State. The driver, reportedly speeding, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall on the biker as it descended the bridge.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the accident. Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, shared the details via the authority’s official X handle.
“Early this morning, operatives of LASTMA and other emergency responders recovered the body of a female biker trapped under a loaded containerized truck in Lagos,” the statement read. “Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver, who was speeding, lost control and caused the truck to fall on the female biker. The driver fled the scene upon realizing the severity of the accident.”
Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 6:15 am. Giwa noted that LASTMA personnel promptly called in other emergency responders, including the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU), for a rescue operation.
The Lagos State Ambulance Service took the deceased’s body away, and the containerized truck was evacuated to clear the way for free vehicular movement on Iganmu Bridge. Police officers were also deployed to ensure security during the rescue operation.
Giwa expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and warned truck drivers to adhere to speed limits within and outside the state. He also advised motorcycle operators, both commercial and private, to obey traffic rules and regulations as stipulated in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
