Former President Barack Obama has officially endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate for the 2024 U.S. election. Speaking to party members on Tuesday, Obama delivered a rousing endorsement of Harris, highlighting her historic candidacy and the critical importance of the upcoming election.
Obama, who remains one of the most influential figures in American politics, used his address to rally the Democratic base and underscore Harris’s qualifications. He also took the opportunity to pay tribute to outgoing President Joe Biden, his former vice president, for his service to the nation.
“Kamala Harris represents the future of our country—a leader with the experience, strength, and vision to guide us forward,” Obama declared. “She’s not just ready to make history; she’s ready to lead.”
Harris, who made history as the first female, first Black, and first Asian American U.S. vice president, could break another barrier by becoming the first woman to hold the presidency if she defeats Republican candidate Donald Trump in November. Her candidacy represents a continuation of the Obama-Biden legacy, and the Democratic Party is counting on Obama’s endorsement to energize voters as the election enters its final stretch.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama and Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, are also scheduled to speak in support of Harris, further bolstering her campaign. Harris is expected to take center stage on Thursday night for a pivotal speech aimed at solidifying her position as the Democratic nominee.
