A devastating fire erupted at the Ladipo plank market, located at Baale Roundabout, Orile-Iganmu, Lagos State, causing extensive damage estimated in millions of naira.

The blaze, which began around midnight on Wednesday, swiftly engulfed a significant portion of the market. Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) spokesperson Nosa Okunbor confirmed the incident, stating that emergency calls were received at 12:04 am through the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency lines. LASEMA’s Cobra Response Team from Onipanu was promptly deployed.

Upon reaching the site at 12:42 am, responders found a section of the market ablaze. Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire originated from a pile of planks, ignited by an electrical surge, and rapidly spread to three adjacent shops.

Okunbor assured that the multi-agency response teams, led by the LASEMA Response Team (LRT), implemented all necessary safety protocols to protect both the emergency responders and the scene. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties or injuries associated with the fire.

Efforts are ongoing to assess the full extent of the damage and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
