A businessman was tragically killed by a stray bullet during a violent protest in Yauri local government area of Kebbi State. The incident occurred as demonstrators clashed with marine police near the Yauri River.

According to local resident Malam Umar Bako Yelwa, the protest intensified when demonstrators blocked the federal highway, disrupting traffic into Yauri. In an attempt to disperse the crowd, marine police fired live rounds. One of these bullets struck a plastic vendor in his shop, resulting in his death. The victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed.

The Nigeria Police Force’s Kebbi State Command has not yet commented on the incident. Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Abubakar has not responded to requests for information.
