Prince Eze Madumere, the former Deputy Governor of Imo State, has called on Nigerian youths and promoters of the hunger protest to embrace peace and dialogue. Speaking to journalists in Owerri, Madumere emphasized the importance of accepting the olive branch extended by President Bola Tinubu, who has called for mutual discussions to address the protesters’ demands.
Highlighting the democratic right to protest, Madumere urged the youth to transition from protest to dialogue for the sake of sustainable development. “Once your voice resonates and the authorities listen to your grievances, the next step is to engage in mutually beneficial deliberations,” he stated. He called on the Federal Government to establish seamless communication channels with the protest leaders to ensure effective dialogue.
Madumere also commended the South East governors and stakeholders for their efforts in maintaining peace in the region. He praised the youth for their calmness and called on party faithful across Nigeria to support efforts to rebuild and refocus the nation.
Reacting to comments urging the Igbo to leave Lagos State, Madumere stressed the constitutional right of all Nigerians to reside anywhere in the country. He applauded President Tinubu and other leaders for their swift interventions, affirming that Nigeria remains a united entity.
In his appeal, Madumere extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the protests, urging elder statesmen and stakeholders to support the Tinubu administration. He encouraged Nigerians to trust in President Tinubu’s capability to navigate the current challenges, emphasizing that collective support would lead to the realization of a nation aligned with their aspirations.
