A shocking incident took place in Bassam Galomari village, located in Gubio II Ward of Gubio Local Government Area in Borno State. On Friday, August 2, 2024, herdsmen attacked a local farmer, brutally severing both of his hands.

According to Zagazola Makama, a specialist in counter-terrorism and insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin, the attack occurred when the herdsmen, who were driving cattle, trespassed onto the farmer’s land. When the farmer attempted to remove them from his property, the herdsmen resisted, leading to a violent confrontation.

In the ensuing altercation, one of the herdsmen attacked the farmer with a weapon, amputating his hands. The farmer was promptly taken to Gubio Hospital but was later referred to Maiduguri Hospital for advanced treatment.

The incident has raised significant concerns about security in the area, with warnings issued for residents to steer clear of Bassam Galomari Village. Authorities have been directed to address the situation and ensure the safety of the local community.
