The Imo State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Aboki Danjuma, showcased significant strides in combating crime with the arrest of six suspects involved in kidnapping and armed robbery. The suspects were paraded today, August 22, 2024, at the Command Headquarters in Owerri, following intelligence-led operations that also resulted in the rescue of a kidnapped victim and the recovery of firearms and ammunition.

Among the highlights was the swift response to the kidnapping of a 26-year-old woman from her residence in Obinze, Owerri West LGA, on August 18, 2024. Acting on credible intelligence, the Command’s anti-kidnapping unit raided a forest hideout in Avu, leading to the rescue of the victim and the arrest of five suspects. The apprehended individuals, identified as Umaru Usman (40), Tukur Yau (25), Musbau Sabo (18), Abdul Ibrahim (30), and Jubrin Idris (35), were all found with a pump-action gun, five cartridges, and various dangerous weapons, including daggers and charms.

In a separate operation on August 21, 2024, the Command’s operatives nabbed Nwauba Alex, a 25-year-old from Ezza LGA in Ebonyi State, who was caught robbing two residents at gunpoint near Aladinma Primary School, Owerri. Recovered from the scene were a locally made pistol and two rounds of live ammunition. The suspect, who confessed to the crime, revealed that he acquired the weapon from a supplier in Ezza. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the gun manufacturers.
