On August 4, 2024, CP Aboki Danjuma, the Commissioner of Police for Imo State, visited Umucheke Community in Onuimo Local Government Area to assess the tragic incident that claimed the lives of over eight members of the Eze Umucheke Cabinet. The victims were brutally murdered on August 3 by suspected members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN. Accompanying CP Danjuma were Dr. Emeka Obi, Sole Administrator of Onuimo LGA, Major AI Maikarifi from the 34 Artillery Brigade, Commandant Mathew Ovye of the NSCDC, and other security officials.

During his visit, CP Danjuma expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and the entire community. He assured them that security agencies in the state are working together to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore peace in the area.

The Commissioner of Police highlighted recent violent incidents in Imo State, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced security measures. On July 30, 2024, four police officers and a civilian were killed in an attack on a police checkpoint along the Owerri-Onitsha Road. This brutal attack underscored the growing insecurity in the state​.

Additionally, on July 7, 2024, three vigilantes and a teenager were ambushed and killed by gunmen in Umuaka, Njaba Local Government Area. The attackers targeted the vigilantes during their routine patrol, further escalating the region’s violence​.

CP Danjuma reiterated the police force’s commitment to apprehending those responsible for these heinous acts and ensuring the safety of all residents. He called on the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigations and bring the criminals to justice​.
