The Lagos State Government has taken decisive action against noise and environmental pollution by sealing off Landcraft Industries Nigeria and Word of Light Christ Ministry (Camp of Light) in Ikorodu. The enforcement, led by the Deputy Director of the Enforcement Department, Babatunde Gbenga, was part of the state’s effort to ensure compliance with the Lagos State Environmental Laws 2017.
State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the closures in a statement on Wednesday. Landcraft Industries Nigeria was sealed for gross environmental pollution at its Odogunyan location, while Word of Light Christ Ministry, located at Oriokuta, was shut down due to noise pollution.
Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), explained that these actions were taken after repeated warnings to the establishments were ignored. “The sealing demonstrates LASEPA’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the environment and public health,” he stated.
Ajayi emphasized that the agency is prepared to take similar actions against any establishment that fails to comply with environmental regulations. He urged all industries and establishments in Lagos to prioritize environmental sustainability and adhere strictly to the state’s regulations to avoid enforcement actions.
Between March 23 and April 26, LASEPA shut down at least five churches and 19 hotels over noise pollution, according to reports. Additionally, several markets and shopping complexes were also closed for environmental infractions.
