Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, has declined an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force, citing prior commitments as the reason for his decision. The invitation, which was issued in relation to allegations of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime, was deemed untimely by Ajaero.
In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Ajaero’s legal team at Falana and Falana Chambers explained that the invitation was received too late to accommodate. “We are solicitors to the Nigeria Labour Congress and its President, Joe Ajaero, on whose behalf we write this letter in respect of the above subject matter,” the letter read.
The letter further stated, “Ajaero is unable to honor your invitation on Tuesday, August 20, as he had prior engagements that were fixed before the receipt of the invitation letter.”
This development adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing tension between the NLC and the government, with the possibility of further escalation.
