The Delta Obedient Elders’ Council has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent address to Nigerians, accusing him of being out of touch with the country’s harsh realities. The statement, released on Wednesday by Chairman Chris Biose and Secretary Solomon Akeni, was in response to the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests that have spread across Nigeria.

Expressing their disappointment, the council highlighted that the President’s speech failed to address the core issues plaguing the nation. “The President acknowledged the severe suffering of the masses but failed to present any fresh policy measures to address the demands of the protesters,” the statement read.

The elders criticized the administration’s lack of accountability and excessive expenditure on frivolous items while the majority of Nigerians face intense hardship. They pointed out the omission of critical issues such as the widespread killings of farmers by armed Fulani herdsmen, which have severely impacted food production.

“It is unreasonable to believe that he does not know that this phenomenon is at the root of the inability of Nigerian farmers to produce sufficient food for local consumption in the past few years,” they stated. The council also lamented the violence, looting, and destruction of public facilities during some of the protests.

Furthermore, the council condemned the President’s silence on significant issues like oil theft and the brutal killings of citizens by police officers. They urged President Tinubu to move beyond grandstanding and take concrete actions to address the nation’s pressing problems.
