Nigerian music icon and cultural legend, Onyeka Onwenu, affectionately known as the ‘Elegant Stallion,’ has been laid to rest in Lagos, drawing an end to an illustrious life dedicated to music, activism, and public service. The funeral service was held at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, followed by a private burial at a vault in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Onwenu, whose career spanned several decades as a singer, songwriter, actor, journalist, and politician, passed away on July 30, 2024, after collapsing at a birthday party in Ikeja. Her untimely death at the age of 72 has left a void in the Nigerian entertainment industry and beyond.

The funeral attracted numerous dignitaries, including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who joined family, friends, and fans in paying their last respects to the legendary artist.
