Osun State Police Command has apprehended a 29-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Damilare Jacob, for allegedly robbing and raping a student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. The harrowing incident occurred on the evening of Friday, July 26, 2024, when the victim hired Damilare to transport her from Ile-Ife to Moro town.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, the suspect diverted the ride to a secluded area near the RCC junction along Ilesa/Ibadan Expressway, Ile-Ife. There, Damilare reportedly robbed the student of her valuables, including an iPhone XS Max worth N320,000, a Samsung Galaxy A71 valued at N150,000, an Airtel Wi-Fi device, and N20,000 in cash. He then forcibly raped her.
Adding to the horror, Damilare allegedly cut the victim’s pubic, armpit, and head hair, threatening to kill her if she reported the crime. The traumatized student was later taken to the police hospital in Osogbo for medical evaluation and treatment.
Opalola confirmed that Damilare has confessed to the crime and will face charges in court upon the completion of the investigation.
