The Supreme Court has confirmed Hope Uzodimma’s re-election as the governor of Imo State, dismissing appeals from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP). The five-member panel, in a unanimous decision on Friday, ruled that the appeals filed by PDP candidate Samuel Anyanwu and LP candidate Athan Achonu lacked merit.

The court’s judgment solidifies Uzodimma’s victory in the November 11 election, where he secured 540,308 votes, while Anyanwu and Achonu trailed with 71,503 and 64,081 votes, respectively. Both opposition candidates had previously challenged the election results at the Imo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal but were unsuccessful. Their subsequent appeals to the Supreme Court have now met the same fate.

The panel held that the appellants failed to provide sufficient evidence to substantiate their claims, thereby affirming Uzodimma’s mandate as the duly elected governor of Imo State.
