Eleven lives were tragically cut short in a devastating accident involving an Abia Line Transport Company Ltd. bus near Umuika Junction on the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt expressway. The crash, which occurred around 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, claimed the lives of nine adults and two babies after the driver allegedly fell asleep, causing the bus to collide with a truck before veering off into the bush.
Eyewitnesses reported a horrifying scene, with some describing the crash as a “terrible experience.” A passerby, who identified himself as Ochiegbu, stated that he was on his way from Umuahia when he encountered the wreckage. He immediately alerted the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to the disaster.
Footage from the scene, broadcast on ABN TV, captured the heart-wrenching moments as bystanders attempted to rescue survivors and recover bodies. Tears flowed freely as sympathizers struggled to comprehend the scale of the tragedy.
