A devastating road accident occurred in Lagos on Friday, resulting in the tragic death of a minibus driver after an articulated truck collided with his vehicle, slamming it into the fence of a shopping complex near Mangoro.

The incident, confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), took place at approximately 8:35 am. Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, revealed that the accident was caused by reckless driving and overspeeding by the truck driver, who lost control and rear-ended the minibus.

Emergency responders from LASEMA, alerted through the 767 and 112 toll-free lines, swiftly arrived at the scene at 8:48 am. The tragic collision claimed the life of the minibus driver, whose body was retrieved by the LASEMA Response Team and handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.

The truck, bearing the registration number MEK 945 XA, had collided with the minibus, registered as AGL 287 YJ, pushing it violently into the fence of the nearby shopping complex. The truck driver, who sustained injuries, was rushed to an undisclosed hospital before the arrival of the emergency team.

Following the incident, LASEMA’s Eagle Response team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police Force, managed to recover the truck from the scene. The vehicle was subsequently towed to the Dopemu Police Station, allowing the road to be reopened for traffic.

This tragic incident highlights the persistent dangers posed by reckless driving on Lagos roads, underscoring the need for increased vigilance and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
