The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the appointment of Rangers’ head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, as an assistant to Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen. This strategic move comes as the Super Eagles prepare for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
Ilechukwu, who led Rangers to their eighth Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title last season, brings a wealth of experience to the national team. Known for his tactical acumen and ability to inspire his players, Ilechukwu’s addition to the Super Eagles’ coaching team is expected to bolster the squad’s preparations for the critical qualifiers.
In addition to Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, head coach of Remo Stars, has also been appointed as an assistant coach under Eguavoen. Ogunmodede, like Ilechukwu, is recognized for his tactical prowess and will be a valuable asset in the coaching setup.
Eguavoen, who has previously led the Super Eagles to success, will guide the team in their upcoming fixtures, starting with a home match against Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo this Saturday. Following that, the team will travel to Kigali to face Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium next Tuesday.
The Super Eagles are determined to secure their place in the 2025 AFCON, and these appointments signal a commitment to bringing the best coaching talent to the national team.
As the countdown to these crucial matches begins, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how Ilechukwu and Ogunmodede’s influence impacts the team’s performance on the road to AFCON 2025.
