The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has called on Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel to embrace financial accountability as a key principle in their roles. Speaking at the opening of the NAF Finance Seminar 2024 in Abuja, Abubakar emphasized that managing resources with integrity and prudence is crucial to maintaining the Air Force’s operational readiness and ensuring its personnel are properly trained and equipped.
“When resources are managed with integrity and prudence, it enhances our ability to maintain a high state of readiness, train, equip, and deploy our personnel effectively,” Abubakar stated. He urged every officer, from the highest command to the most junior ranks, to internalize accountability in all financial dealings, describing it as essential not only for operational success but for the future of the Nigerian Air Force and the nation’s security.
Abubakar stressed the importance of efficient resource management, especially in challenging times, stating that it is not just an operational necessity but a moral imperative. He highlighted the Accounts and Budget Branch’s role as the backbone of the Air Force’s financial and operational effectiveness.
The Chief of Accounts and Budget, Air Vice Marshal Uchechi Nwagwu, further explained that the seminar aims to build the professional capacity of NAF finance personnel in public fund management. He said the event’s theme was inspired by the need to ensure transparency in financial transactions, promote ethical behavior, and encourage the efficient use of limited resources. Nwagwu expressed confidence that the seminar would equip finance officers with the necessary skills to improve accountability practices.
Nwagwu concluded by urging participants, especially those in finance roles, to foster a culture of financial accountability that supports NAF operations and enhances the service’s overall effectiveness.
