Ajuri Ngelale, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, has announced he is taking an indefinite leave of absence from his roles due to urgent family medical issues. Ngelale, who also serves as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen, disclosed his decision in a statement on September 7, 2024.

In his memo submitted to the Chief of Staff to the President, Ngelale cited worsening health concerns within his immediate family as the reason for his departure. “This difficult decision follows extensive consultations with my family, as we face a severe medical situation at home,” he explained. Ngelale expressed his hope to resume his national duties once his family’s health situation improves.

Ngelale’s tenure included prominent roles in the administration, from leading climate action initiatives to boosting President Tinubu’s public image. Before his current positions, he was a key figure in former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and played a significant role in the 2023 presidential campaign for Tinubu. His contributions also extended to media roles, including senior reporting positions at Africa Independent Television and Channels Television.

His departure is a notable shift in the administration, given his influential roles in advancing climate policies and representing Nigeria on the international stage. Ngelale’s absence will be felt in ongoing initiatives, particularly the Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions, which oversees Nigeria’s green development strategies.
