Former Manchester United player and current Everton defender, Ashley Young, has slammed Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho for their uninspiring performances during Manchester United’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. According to Young, the two wingers displayed a lack of confidence throughout the game, failing to take risks and attack space when it mattered most.
In Sunday’s match at Old Trafford, Spurs outclassed United with goals from Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke, while Rashford and Garnacho struggled to make an impact. Young, speaking with Sky Sports after the game, expressed disappointment at their reluctance to challenge defenders and take on one-on-one situations.
“When you’ve got wingers like Rashford and Garnacho, you expect them to take on defenders, but today they were playing it safe, passing backwards instead of attacking the space,” Young remarked. “As a former winger, that’s a sign of no confidence. You should be lighting up when you see those opportunities.”
He emphasized that wingers need to seize their chances in one-on-one situations, especially at a club like Manchester United, where the expectation is to take risks and create opportunities.
The defeat has added further pressure on Erik ten Hag’s side, and Young’s comments highlight the concerns surrounding United’s attacking play and overall form.
