The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has dispatched no fewer than 300 trucks to the Dangote Refinery in preparation for the loading of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) scheduled to begin on Sunday, September 15, 2024. This significant movement was confirmed by NNPC spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, via a video shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday.
Soneye noted that the trucks are being stationed at the refinery’s fuel loading gantry, signaling the imminent start of large-scale petrol distribution from the much-anticipated Dangote Refinery. “By the end of today, at least 300 trucks will be positioned at the refinery’s fuel loading gantry,” he said, adding that all preparations are in place for the scheduled petrol loading.
This marks a major milestone for the refinery, which is expected to play a significant role in Nigeria’s petroleum supply chain. Earlier reports indicated that the Dangote Refinery would begin supplying petrol exclusively to NNPC, with other marketers expected to join the distribution pipeline shortly after.
The Lagos State government has also made assurances that measures are in place to ensure a free flow of traffic around the refinery, given the influx of trucks for loading. With over 300 trucks mobilized, the next few days will be crucial in determining how quickly the refinery’s output reaches fuel stations nationwide.
As the nation anticipates the effects of this new phase in fuel distribution, all eyes are on Dangote Refinery and its ability to meet the growing demand for petrol across Nigeria.
